Prepare a batch of black lentils for dals & other Indian dishes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Urad dal, dried & soaked overnight in cold water
  • water - varies according to cooking method below

Instructions

  1. Slow Cooker: 1) Add Urad dal & 4 cups of water to slow cooker 2) Stir, cover & cook for 4 hours HIGH or 8-9 hours LOW 3) Remove lid drain before using
  2. Instant Pot: 1) Add Urad dal & 4 cups of water to cooker 2) Secure the cooker lid, seal pressure valve; cook on Manual/Pressure for 40 minutes 3) Leave to Natural Pressure Release for 5 minutes 5) Remove lid & drain before using
  3. Stove Top: 1) Add Urad dal & 1-1/2 quart of water to a heavy bottomed pan 2) Stir & bring the water to boil, reduce the heat to low, and cover 3) Cook for 90 minutes 4) Remove lid & drain before using
